It’s no coincidence that for many Merida Yucatan is a prefered destination for the holidays. Not only during Spring Break or Summer but Winter Break too. Therefore the city is known as the place of the eternal spring, because of its delightful weather. Thanks to this, we can always enjoy our beloved beaches and cenotes around us, no matter the season.
If you are considering visiting the city in the next few months, and just like any traveller you’d like to do your research, keep reading to find out everything about the weather of the beautiful City of Merida Yucatan.
A unique climate
Throughout the year in Merida, the temperature oscillates between 18 ºC to 36 ºC. The ‘Chilly’ season begins in November and ends around the first week of February. If you are lucky, you will feel the lowest temperature on the beginning of January; with a minimum of 18 ºC and a maximum of 29 ºC.
One of the many advantages of Merida’s weather, an Yucatan in general, is that you can enjoy the natural light for a long time. The sun rises around 6 a.m. from April to October and an hour later (7 a.m.) the rest of the year. The ‘golden hour’ or sunset starts at 5:30 p.m. during autumn-winter and at 7 p.m. during spring-summer. That only means you’ll get more time to make the most out of your day and enjoy your trip!
Here comes the rain!
We are not gonna lie, it does rains… rarely but still. And it only lasts a couple of minutes. During the year, it regularly rains in March and slows down significantly through September. But the rain in the city is no excuse for cancelling your plans of the day. If you are looking forward to enjoying the beach, pool, cenotes on clear days with no rain, we suggest planning your trip between the end of October or mid-May. But don’t let the rain become the decision-maker for your visit, even if it does, the climate won’t get colder or prevent you from having a blast!
Then, what’s the best time of the year to visit?
According to the tourism indexes and meteorological studies, the months with the greatest climate are from November to March. Due to the balance amongst precipitation, cloudiness and temperature. Thus being January, February and March the favourite months to vacation here, if you are trying to avoid the summer heat, of course. But if you love the sun like us, the ideal temperature for a worthy Yucatecan bronze is during the summertime. That being said, anytime is a great time to visit Yucatan!
